We are thinking warm thoughts, and on a journey down the East Coast, we’re hoping to find ourselves landing in the Outer Banks. Specifically, we have our eyes on the small town of Hatteras Creek, North Carolina!
If you’ve never been to the Outer Banks, you’re definitely missing out. This group of small barrier islands separating the coast from the Atlantic Ocean serves up not only scenic views but also a variety of activities for locals and visiting boaters to enjoy.
Hatteras Landing is the hub of it all with awesome shops, restaurants, live music, and gear rentals for your time spent out on the water. The tasty bites you can get by the docks specialize in coastal cuisine, so for all you seafood lovers, this area is for you! Grab a drink at one of the many tiki bars and watch the sunset with friends and family. You can even charter a vessel for whatever you want to do! Fishing
or recreation – the world is your oyster.
We recommend visiting the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum while in town. True to its name, the museum pays homage to the history of shipwrecks, hurricanes, search and rescue, and more that have been sequential in forming the history of the island. The outside architecture reflects that of a ship’s haul and is a sight in itself. There are events going on throughout the year, so even if you visit in a typical “off season,” there will be plenty to enjoy at the museum.
You can even take the Hatteras ferry to Ocracoke Island which is only accessible by boat or plane. As you can imagine, this distant island is serene and relaxed. You can enjoy a quiet walk on the beach by the sandpipers or kayak along the shores. Great restaurants and shops line the town giving you all the opportunities to do absolutely whatever you want while staying. There are bike rentals upon reaching the island if you want to get around the eco-friendly way. However, the ferries are capable of carrying vehicles across the Inlet if you so desire for an easier way of travel.
