Hilton Head Island in South Carolina is a southern vacation dream. Here is everything we love to experience while visiting the peninsula island on the southernmost tip of South Carolina.
Hilton Head Island is the perfect location for landlubbers and seafarers alike. For those who prefer to stay on land, rent a bike and head down the spanish moss covered sidewalks. Island Explorer features awesome excursions for the whole family to enjoy. From dolphin encounters to sunset cruises, you won’t want to miss anything. The coolest tour they offer? A 3 hour trip to the vanishing island, a low sandbar that is only exposed during low-tide! This is perfect for those looking to find sand dollars or beautiful shells and sea creatures. Check out all of the tours they offer here! Of course, you can find sand dollars along any beach you visit. Just drag your feet in the sand – when you feel something like sandpaper, you’ve found one.
There are plenty of great restaurants on Hilton Head Island, and most of them come with an ocean view (or an inlet/water view). However, we recommend you visit The Salty Dog Cafe. This cafe is pretty renowned when it comes to Hilton Head Island. It is kind of a must visit while in the area. Located in the scenic South Beach, this cafe seats guests along the water of the Braddock Cove. Definitely try the shrimp and grits – no one does this iconic southern dish quite like the Salty Dog Cafe!
A must visit beach while on Hilton Head Island is Coligny Beach Park. This picturesque white sand beach has all the amenities to make your day by the water as relaxing as possible. There are outdoor showers, changing rooms, and restrooms right off the sand. There are lounge rentals available and covered gazebos as well. Best of all? There is free WiFi available to the public! The nearby Coligny Plaza has beach friendly stores and restaurants! No shirt? No shoes? No problem!
Hilton Head is also just 45 minutes north of Savannah, Georgia. Leaving the island may be hard, but experiencing the southern town charm of Savannah may be a must if you’re already so close. We have great marina partners in the area, so check them out here and add a leg to your journey.
