Please read all reviews before going to this marina. I STRONGLY advise to avoid this marina at all cost.
I hate having to post bad reviews but the 'repairs' performed by 43 North Marina directly caused irreversible damage to my boat that is costing me thousands.
This horrendous experience has lasted over a year because of the incompetent and careless actions of their service department.
BACKGROUND:
Last year, I brought my boat in for repair, as I ran aground in Oneida Lake. The skeg and prop were damaged and needed repair.
Throughout the repair process, communication was almost non existent unless I cc'd the owner in emails. I literally began keeping a call log where I've documented over 50 attempts to speak with someone on the phone to no avail. The lack of communication is abhorrent.
Our family missed all of last season on the water because of the back and forth. Were now missing this season as well. And we are paying for a marina...
Upon receiving our boat back from the marina, we immediately noticed a lower unit leak that was not their previously.
I brought it back to the marina twice and it was misdiagnosed twice. The service manager informed us that a pressure test was performed and no leak was found. Even though I continually found milky fluid in the lower unit, proving water was getting in.
We had gone back and forth with them all season and at the end of the season, after the latest misdiagnosis, the service manager told me that he refilled the lower unit and advised me to "run it next year and let him know if I see anything.
At the beginning of this season, I noticed the leak after running it briefly so I brought it back to the marina where it again was misdiagnosed. The service manager said he pressure tested it again and did not find a leak. He said he refilled the lower unit with oil, again, and told me to run it... Again. After a short time I check the lower unit again... and again there was milky fluid in the lower unit.
This time I got the attention of the owner, as I wrote a google review of my experience. He asked that I give them another chance to make it right if I took down my review. In good faith, I did.
After they looked at it, again, they again did not find a leak. The owner assured me a pressure test was performed and no leak was found.
After having the owner assure me it was all set I ran it, again, on the lake a couple times then again checked the lower unit oil.
It was milky...
This time I took a video and sent it to 43 North. Shortly thereafter, The owner informed me that they diagnosed my problem to be a seal! They diagnosed it from my video! Not any of the 5 times I had it in!
I've tried to give them every opportunity to fix the leak they caused but my patience has completely wore down.
CURRENT SITUATION:
I recently brought my boat in to a different, marina and they assessed the damage.
Diagnosis:
- Pressure test was performed and failed badly. It couldn't hold 20psi.
- Massive internal damage to the lower unit cause by water damage.
Each time 43 North misdiagnosed the lower unit, they advised me to 'run it'. Each time I ran it, water would get in the lower unit and damage the gearing.
I now have to replace the lower unit completely or have it rebuilt. This will cost thousands not including the labor.
The skeg 'repair' performed by 43 North Marina directly caused irreversible damage that is now costing me thousands.
I feel it is my responsibility to inform others and help prevent this from happening to anyone else.
Please do yourself a giant favor and avoid this marina at all cost.
