Waterway Guide Review

A Waterway Guide User on February 25th, 2026:

The price we received on Dockwa was NOT the price presented by the office, they stated it was because we were a catamaran. Boat dimensions are stored in Dockwa so I'm not quite sure what they mean by that, as every other marina we've booked through Dockwa has been the final price. We paid almost $400/night for a spot on the seawall for our 44ft catamaran. Unfortunately we discovered the water hose was tainted after we filled up so we had to dump the water we took on board and change hoses. The amenities are good but it's such a long walk through the boatyard to get to them. They are hauling boats up on the forklift all day long. We were bringing on crew and all other marinas were full so we really had no choice. It's also a $30 Uber to downtown.

The Stock Island Yacht Club and Marina is a wonderful marina. There are two basins in the marina, referred to as the inner basin and outer basin, both having distinctive features to consider. The outer basin has recently been rebuilt with very sturdy floating docks. The water depth at the slip was better than 12 feet, making good slips for deep-keel sailboats. The power pedestals are on the fixed dock, which is about 35 feet from the shore-end of the floating dock, requiring a shore power cable of 40-50 feet. The outer basin is quiet, and has a very nice covered area at the far end of the dock to enjoy the afternoon sun or evening sunset. The are two downsides to the outer basin. First, it is a very long walk to the marina office, ships store, pool, laundry, showers and the gate to exit the property. Second, while there is access to the beach area from the dock, it is not very pet-friendly. The inner basin is much closer to all of the marina facilities and has much better access to very pet-friendly grassy areas. The inner basin is fixed docks, with normal tides ranging around 18 inches. As the inner basin is along the parking area and driveway, there is more vehicle and foot traffic, but it was not a problem during our stay. Dockhands were waiting at the slip when we arrived, and the marina staff is very friendly and quite helpful. The restrooms/showers are very clean, and the laundry facility has four large washer/dryers and a small folding table. There is also a very comfortable small lounge. The marina has a ships store, but it is limited to just cold drinks and a small selection of fishing supplies. Pump-out service is done at the slip on a weekly basis, and the marina provides up to two free five-gallon buckets of ice per day delivered to your boat. The grounds are very clean and well-maintained. The only downside to the marina has nothing to do with the marina itself, but the fact that the Naval Air Station Key West, a naval training facility, is located on the next key to the north and the jet noise can be excessive at times. The onsite restaurant is closed, but Roostica is an excellent Italian restaurant just 0.8 mile from the marina. There is also Croissants de France, an excellent French Bakery at the same location. The Hogfish Bar and Grill is also a very good seafood restaurant about 0.6 mile from the marina. There are several transportation options from the marina to downtown Key West. Aside from both Uber and Lyft, there is the remarkably inexpensive Conch Connect service. Download the app to your phone and they will take you anywhere for just $2.00 per person (although we always gave them a $5.00 tip). Keep in mind this service only has six vehicles in their fleet, so wait times can be lengthy during peak hours. There is also a free shuttle from the Oceans Edge marina next door to downtown Key West every hour on the hour. We spent a month at the Stock Island Yacht Club and Marina waiting for the weather to get warmer on the east coast. We originally planned to stay with a buddy boat at the Bight Marina in downtown Key West, but the Mediterranean-style docking (bow anchor and stern-tie to an open dock) was a problem for our stern-mounted dinghy and the marina was not pet-friendly. We were very pleased with the Stock Island Marina and would definitely stay here again.

The slip was fine. Got help tying up too. But the advertising is an over sell. The bathroom was a half mile walk from the slip. Literally. I measured it. The bar wasn’t a bar but a drinks outlet and was dead. The restaurant was closed. So no food. And it a big storage marina, so lots of sheds and car parks.

A Note from the Marina:

Thank you for providing feedback, we certainly understand your concerns. The restroom facilities closer to your slip are currently under construction do the damages we experienced from Hurricane Ian, but we are very sorry for the inconvenience during your stay. We are currently working to redevelop the property and we hope to redeem your business in the future. Thank you, Krystal.

Great place to stay. Docks are floating and can be short. Good washrooms free laundry great pool and restaurant. Kids loved the beach. Enter the basin between the markers at decent speed as winds tend to blow you to the south by the markers. Once into the basin everything calms down. Ships store, free pumpout and laundry in the tiki hut in the outer basin. Friendly liveaboards in the marina.

They are closing soon (November 2022) to reconstruct the docks and build a hotel on property.

Solid docks among mangroves (in the outer basin) a bit far from the office, restaurant and pool.
There are only two toilets and showers in the hut at the outer basin. They are a bit rustic, but clean.
Beautiful area but a bit isolated. Good WiFi.

If you're looking to avoid the mayhem and shenanigans of the tourist traps in Key West, then this is your marina. Convenient to the Florida Straights, clean, well maintained, with excellent customer service. This marina is and will continue to be our "spot" when sailing through the Florida Keys.

Close enough to KW; laid back enough to chill. Stock Island Yacht Club and Marina offered us shelter from the winds of February, 2021. The friendly staff took great care of our every need. Marooned for a week, we dined at their tasty Test Kitchen II and sampled a bevy of the best nearby Cuban restaurants for the occasional breakfast out. If you go don’t miss the nearby (“A great place if you can find it!”) Hogfish Bar’s Sunday Shrimp Boil. Close to the fishing, cruising and sightseeing waters surrounding Key West, the only difficulty you’ll have is leaving.

This is a great marina and boatyard. Away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Key West, Stock Island Yacht Club and Marina is a relaxing and well managed facility. Showers, clubhouse, ship store, marine services and a private beach make this a superb destination. Thanks, Todd and team, for a perfect get away. See you soon.
