No complaints. It’s not a full service marina but you know that going in. The dock hand was great, docks are in good shape. Just plan on managing the tide cycle when it comes to getting on/off the boat

Free docks on opposite shore were silted in. Came here. One is exposed to canal but very little canal traffic. No wake issues. Tied-up just east of bridge but never noticed bridge noise above our heater-fans noise. Dock guy, Steve, carefully made sure we were tied with long spring lines to handle the tide. Great Restaurant.

We had a really good experience here. The staff was super friendly and helpful and really went out of their way for us. The restaurant was great and you are a short dinghy ride to town on the other side of the canal. Because it is a fixed dock, it can be tricky getting on and off the boat at low tide but the staff really does go out of their way to make it as easy as possible. No showers, laundry or grocery nearby.

Excellent harbormaster Tom and dockhand Aubrey helped us tie up along bulkhead. Diesel is reasonably priced and EZ in-out at fuel dock.
Only downside is tidal change. Had to jump down from the dock onto the deck about 5' at low tide.

The high outside dock in front of the restaurant prohibited us from getting on and off of the boat at low tide. The boat traffic both large and small, rocked us all night long. There is no bath house, so that is certainly a “con”. The restaurant was the only real bright spot for this location.
A Note from the Marina:The marina has floating docks and a fixed pier on site, however customers needing power are placed on the fixed pier, as the floating docks do not have power. If a floating dock is preferred, the marina will accommodate. The available amenities of the docks, which are located outside of a restaurant and bar, are noted on the Snag-A-Slip profile. The marina does offer restrooms, but a bath house is not an available amenity.

Much enjoyed the large bar/restaurant - good food and service. This is a restaurant with a dock that accepts transients, not a true marina. The only section of the bulkhead (in front of the restaurant) that has power and water is quite high up, and the tide significant, which can make getting on/off the boat a challenge. Only docking for sailboats is along the canal bulkhead, but wake from passing boats was less than feared, since Chesapeake City is a "no wake" zone. Note that they have fuel (gas and diesel), but no other amenities for transients (no pump-out/showers/laundry/after-hours toilets etc.). Those would be welcome additions that could lead to longer stays.

Great help from Dockmaster and dockhand. The Army Corp had actually closed the C&D Canal due to fog. I contacted the Dockmaster and he called me when the Canal was open to traffic. My only complaint has nothing to do with the marina. The restaurant has gone downhill. My guess is they have a new chef. First order was returned. It was prime rib ordered medium rare and arrived medium well. returned it. Then got chicken parmigiana. That was less than good. Didn't finish it. Didn't want to complain. Always awkward if seen as a complainer. Just paid and left. Won't eat here again.

Nice folks running the docks (inc their staff). However not a marina - mainly dockage for restaurant & bar (which we found convenient). Therefore, no dock restrooms or showers (bathrooms at restaurant). No stores of any kind nearby, although Steve offered to have staff give us a ride to a grocery store. We rented a car.

The marina’s description on Snag a Slip is plain misrepresentation. This excludes the dock master and staff: they were professional and attentive. The Marina advertised floating docks, which are critical when the tide rises and falls over 4 feet. But transients are placed on a very high fixed dock that at low tide was 5 feet above our deck. There were no ladders. We were told to wait for the tide to rise in order to simply get off the boat. We finally had to wait several hours, and stand on a yeti cooler to heave ourselves onto the dock, a few feet away from amused restaurant diners. The advertised floating docks are not used because they lack electric. If there were Marina facilities we never saw them and we used the restaurant/bar bathrooms when we could finally get off our boat. Do not stay here. And Snag A Slip needs to force the Marina to rewrite its description to something approaching reality.
A Note from the Marina:Snag-A-Slip reached out to the marina for additional feedback on this review and to ask that they confirm available amenities and marina details on their profile. The marina provided the following response: "We are sorry to read this review, as the customer did not make our team aware that they were dissatisfied with their stay or dockage assignment while on site. We have both floating docks and a fixed pier on site, however our floating docks do not have power. As they mentioned, this customer booked with shore power, so they were placed on the fixed pier. Had they asked to move to the floating pier and not use shore power, we would have gladly accommodated. Our docks are located outside of a bar and restaurant, which is stated on our Snag-A-Slip page and website. Our staff would have moved the customer further away from the building had we been made aware of their discontent with their slip placement. Our team works hard to go above and beyond for each customer, and we are disappointed we did not have the opportunity to improve their stay before they chose to write this review."

This is a good location to stop in preparation to head down the C&D canal, and Delaware River. I believe this is the only marina in Chesapeake City that has fuel. As the price of diesel is steadily heading up theirs was $5.85 plus they give BOATUS and AGLCA discounts.
There is a current, but what areas around here don't don't have a current? Since the main dockage is along a fixed dock it's fairly easy to pull up and the dockmaster is very helpful and friendly.

Nice stop between the Cheasapeake and Cape May. In the past, we have stopped at Delaware City but this is more convenient. Very good diesel prices. We were docked at a long fixed dock alongside the canal and the restaurant. Wakes from passing boats were not bad even on a weekend. A little noisier than most places due to the bridge traffic and the restaurant but not bad. Good and pleasant dock help (Olivia). Sturdy docks.

Current and pilings made for a rough night. The restaurant was lively and the food was good. As to the accommodations there is a substantial amount of current through the marina and the tidal change is roughly 3’. With the marina only offering pilings that makes it tough to position bumpers for cushioning as the shifting current bounces the boat around. Lots of knocking throughout the night. If you’re looking for a fun spot to grab a bite and drink this is the place. If looking for a quiet night of sleep it’s not the best.

Great stay at Schaefer's marina. Stopped at the fuel dock and took on 750 gallons of fuel. Dual pumps made fueling easy and fast. Nice discount for large quantity of fuel. Great line handling from the dock hands. Moved tp the bulkhead for the overnight stay. Again, great docking support. The restaurant had a live band and the food was excellent. Very pleasant stay and great stop between Cape May and Annapolis.

Dealing with the currents in the canal and the huge concrete Chesapeake City Bridge support in the middle of the dock can be quite a challenge. And many a loud speed boat takes advantage of the good fuel prices here. But the people are friendly and the area peaceful, with the restaurant offering decent food and beverage options. Overall a nice one night stop. Be prepared and time your canal transit and docking based on tides. Check AIS for commercial traffic before departing the dock. Note that the dock has no cleats to which you can tie, you'll need to throw a clove hitch or something around the pilings. The dock hands are quite good about helping with line handling.

Great (and easy!) overnight stop along the C&D Canal! After being delayed at a previous marina waiting for a part, we were traveling down the C&D Canal on the way to Cape May and decided to stop last minute at Schaefer's Canal House for the night since the late afternoon weather looked a little threatening. What an unexpected pleasure! The super long side-tie fuel dock paralleling the canal, and the EXCELLENT dockmaster Steve and dockhand Lauren, made tying up for fuel (and then a slip) super easy...in what I thought might be challenging current. Come in against the current & do whatever these dockhands tell you - they know their stuff! The restaurant too was fabulous! Superb view & great food...and when a big ship came past, it went slow and sounded its horn, to the cheers of all the diners. We will be back!

Staff was excellent from the time I hit the Fuel dock, until I was down the pier at my slip. Dockhands were knowledgeable and knew how to secure boat to fixed pier. Fun being on the edge of the restaurant and people eating who wanted to be more informed about boats. Great experience on the C and D canal.

This is a must stop destination for out trips between NJ and FL. The staff is more than accommodating and extremely knowledgeable regarding the currents and always assist with the docking & tie up. The restaurant offers a variety of great food and Happy Hour offers $2 off most popular drinks.

We are docked from May1st to Oct31st on the transit floating docks. Our vessel is definately in good hands with Dockmaster Tom & Manager Steven Connell. They are able to run this top notch facility because of the knowledgable & friendly deckhands. (Olivia Marro, Leah Stubbs, Scott Seisler) Schaefer's is without question your #1 way point when transiting the C&D Canal.

After a long run up the Chesapeake with foul current all day, we arrived at sunset. Steve stayed late to handle our lines for us and could not have been more helpful. The long face dock makes for a convenient stop when transiting the canal. Good dinner at the restaurant.

After a strong stern wind and waves all the way from Cape May up the Delaware Bay, the calm waters of the Canal was such a relief - then the welcoming face docks of Schaffer's Canal House. A band was playing, dinner was being served along the docks, and after a quick shower on board, dinner on the dock was fantastic! Crab cakes were awesome! The band continued after we went back on board, and it added to our cocktails on the flybridge. Schaffer's is a desirable destination, not just a great marina and restaurant. Beautiful view of a competitor across the Canal, too.
