The Wharf Marina

Great customer service. Gave us updates as we were arriving and met us at the dock on arrival. Fuel service was excellent and all of the staff went above and beyond. Will definitely go back in the future. Access to the wharf and all of its fun makes it a definite go to marina!

The person on duty when we arrived was clueless. She was unaware a boat was coming in and sounded hesitant to even check. She was unfamiliar with the dock layout. When I told her we were assigned "B-3" just past the fuel pier, she got hung up because there isn't a B-dock...she eventually figured out the confusion was that the dock assigned was V-dock (which is the one just past the fuel pier) rather than B-dock. V-3. Then, she couldn't really explain where our slip was and she didn't come down to the boat to meet us. She apparently came out of the office somewhere on the DC waterfront and waved but we couldn't see her. When we were leaving we called for the gate code. She gave us four digits that didn't work because it requires a person to enter a # sign. Then she said enter # first. But the gate requires you to enter # after the number not before it. I figured it out on my own. It was very lucky that I was one of one or maybe two customers at the dock last Wed night.

We expected better service and when we arrived they assigned the most dirty slip with NO power when we paid for. Never received the email with the confirmation and slip information. We had seven boats together and we all are very disappointed. For sure you are going to receive more reviews like this.

I've been frequenting this marina for about 5 years and the new area of the marina is a very welcomed addition. It is very nice, well designed with all floating docks and adequate room to safely maneuver when docking, it also now has portable in-slip pump out facilities and a new fuel dock. The new marina office and facilities are also a welcomed improvement over what was previously provided. The ramps from the docks provide a convenient walk to all of the new amenities along the waterfront. My only suggestion is for the staff to be a bit more proactive by proving slip assignments before arrival and greeting the boat at the dock with a welcoming package that provides basic information as the gate key-code. I've been very pleased and recommend that other boaters check out the newly upgraded marina. I've always found the staff to be very helpful and ready to lend a hand when docking.

Everything was very nice, the staff was helpful, the facilities were clean and new. The location is great but a bit noisy, close to a lot of action and very near the helicopter flight path. Our only problem was getting through the gate one night the staff had taken a break and we spent about 20 minutes trying to call and finally another boater had to let us in. If they gave transient boaters a card there would have been no problem but they don’t so you have to rely on someone in the office to let you in.

The Wharf is a fully equipped marina located near the Mall in Washington DC. It has all the features a cruiser could want and need: floating docks along a no wake section of the Washington Channel, good bathrooms with semi-private showers, a laundry room with 4 washers and 4 dryers, a lounge, conveniently placed garbage and recycling receptacles, in-slip pumpout, and fuel. It's walking distance to a Safeway supermarket and the Metro. It's in an upscale tourist development (The Wharf) with lots of good but expensive restaurants and bars and some shopping. My main gripe was the cost: it's not a place for budget-conscious cruisers. There were several mega-yachts there during my stay; I think these are the folks this marina caters to.

Great marina. Good location. Nice facilities. Stayed on a mooring. Very reasonable for DC. Make sure the mooring is large enough for your vessel. We asked to move to a different one and actually almost bumped the sea wall as we did not know (nor did the front desk staff that evening that ok'd the switch) that our boat was too long for some of the moorings. Otherwise, great.

To start with the Marina did not answer the radio as we approached on either channel posted. We therefore approached the fuel dock where the attendants said they had no idea where we needed to go and I needed to call the office. The office told us we were in the wrong section of the Marina. No surprise as we had not received any instructions. They told us we needed to go to “A” dock which ended up being the Capital Yacht Club, which we didn’t realize until we docked so we called again and received more vague instructions where to go. We eventually found a slip however even it did not match to number the office gave us as that slip didn’t exist. On top of this there was a loud party on the boat next to us until very late. We tried to use the bathhouse however there was only one working and it was filthy with trash overflowing and flies everywhere. Bottom line one of our worse Marina experiences made worse by the high price.

One of the onsite attendees confronted us very unprofessionally not knowing we purchased a mooring slip. Parking spots were initially limited and (3) of the ladies on the boat needed to immediately use the restroom. Since not spots were available we pulled into an open slip for less than (45) SECONDS so the ladies could debark from the boat to access the restroom. Immediately, a young woman (did not obtain her name) ran outside and yelled at the ladies telling them “you’re not welcome here and you cannot park there!” After learning we purchased a mooring spot she immediately vacated the area with an apology of explanation for her actions. Super unprofessional and she’s lucky she left when she did. Been using this Company for two years and this is the first unfortunate experience

This is a great location to visit DC. We stayed on a mooring and used our dinghy to get to the dock. Very secure facility with no worries. Making arrangements with Siierra was a pleasure. She is a very sweet young lady.

I was assigned slip A31 and my buddy was assigned M1 we swapped before arrival. Slip M1 was unable to provide 30 or 50 amp service to my boat. I was later shifted (at 10:00pm) to slip B19 to reach a power output, after having to run my generator for power. Later in the evening after visiting with my friend at A31 my wife went to walk back to our boat at B19 there were a group of males hanging out by my boat, I decided to walk down there with her, only to find 1 of them on my boat (I WAS NOT HAPPY). The next morning not sure if it was the same group but empty seltzer cans we thrown on the bow of my boat. This group came from the paddle boat that docked I believe in A29. The amount of foot traffic was unreal with the number of people that seemed to have access to the slips and were unescorted by whatever business was picking up or dropping off their customers. Far cry from the peaceful place I stayed before

The team members at The Wharf are amazing they are always so helpful but our last two stays we have had theft.  This satay last Saturday night someone boarded our boat between the hours of 10:30 pm and 7:30 am and stole our very high end life jackets totaling over $400. Our slip # was V08 which is directly under the office.  Life jackets are replaceable but the principle is disappointing. They were stored away and not visible or easily reachable. It’s a feeling of violation and at such an enjoyable place with what appears secure access. The bonus was the following morning. When we saw security guard we asked was there a problem with theft, he looked dumbfounded, then asked if there was surveillance, he pointed at a camera and walked away. Because of this we had tot boat back to Virginia safety non compliant!!!!  To all boaters going to The Wharf, lock up your stuff. If it isn’t bolted down, take everything to your hotel room, including life jackets.

While I appreciate the frustrations of the previous reviewer. DC has few options for transient docking. We were unable to arrive a day earlier due to existing reservations. Hard to be profitable if you don't maximize covers. The Wharf offered a voucher, unfortunate that the previous reviewer couldn't use it. Our experience was great. A huge upgrade from the old Gangplank which it replaced. BR, showers, laundry & club room/concierge all very nice plus great location for bars, restaurants, Metro, Smithsonian etc. worth the trip up the Potomac

The mooring ball stay was fine. I had a very confusing experience with every phone cal I made to the marina. I couldn’t get a straight answer from numerous people (except Sierra on the last call) for where to pick up guests. No one ever called me back with answers to questions I had. I was offered when booked to be picked up by dinghy for showers and such at the marina bathrooms if needed. Spoke to 5 different people who said they have the service, then they don’t have the service. Very confusing and frustrating, literally Waiting for a pick up after a call to request 9am July 5th to find out there isn’t such a thing. I’ll know for next time to bring my own dinghy, didn’t have it for this trip and the offer at booking is what made me book it knowing I’d have guests and need facilities.

My prepaid slip A31 was not available upon arrival arrival my slip was being occupied buy a company renting personal tour boats. I also took pictures of the boats occupying the slip. My vessel was placed on a wall dockside with a very large yacht completely blocking my view of the fireworks. I’ve been a customer for years and this by far was my worst experience

We booked two nights, but needed to leave a day early when NOAA issued small craft and gale winds for the day we had planned to leave. The Wharf did acknowledge our weather situation and gave us a credit to use on a return visit to their marina. After explaining we were on America's Great Loop and live in Illinois so we would not be able to return to their marina, the general manager told me she must adhere to their policy to be fair to all boaters. Unfortunately, I was not successful at getting across the point that their policy is not fair to boaters unable to ever return to their marina.

The Wharf did acknowledge our weather situation and gave us a credit to use on a return visit to their marina. After explaining we were on America's Great Loop and live in Illinois so we would not be able to return to their marina, the general manager told me she must adhere to their policy to be fair to all boaters. I had a good stay here. Just understand that this is a marina in an urban area. It’s close to a bridge which has traffic, there are lots of helicopters and airplanes flying over. I marked it as Good not Excellent because the showers weren’t working and because there were some other transient boaters with loud stereos thumping until around midnight. The service was good, the floating docks in good shape, and the power was good. The dock is shared with several boat rental places. It’s secured with a gate but there are also lots of people coming through for the rentals. I was there on a perfect June Saturday night. It would be much calmer on a weeknight or off-season. Thanks for a good stay!

Stayed on mooring #3 for two nights in late May 2023. Slight current and moorings are heavy duty. New facilities, incredible staff, and a vibrant boardwalk. Lots of restaurants and shops. Very secure area and many DC attractions are walkable. If you love helicopters, they fly up the Washington Channel.

Great location to museums, most are within a mile. Dock hands are polite and ask if we needed anything whenever they saw us. There is a floating restroom attached to dock but we did not use it. Transient docks (Market Docks) are gated and code enabled but that didn’t keep the locals out. We were there for 4 days and numerous times locals, who did not have boats, were coming into dockage and fishing and just hanging out...once to offer liquor to a person in a canoe, who drank it there at the dock. The dock masters saw locals enter gates and never stopped them from coming in. We never felt unsafe but if one has the code how many more use it? Also beware of power issues. They bring attention on web site as to updated power. However, they have issues on their end. Power stations look to be of the early fault system in that they are more sensitive then current versions. The first tower we hooked up to tripped ( slip M01) I found that one leg had only 50 volts.

Leigh runs a great marina for transients. The dock hands were helpful and prompt with requests. The office staff, Sierra, made us feel welcome from moment one. The location can't be beat for access to all the DC has to offer. One of the best places on our spring trip.

The new docks are awesome, wide, floating and concrete. Access to all DC has to offer is top notch. While it is a premium priced marina, you get all that you pay for and more. A must stay in DC.

I had 12 boats from my yacht club for the trip and because I didn’t have a 50amp to 30Amp converter, I was on a different dock. The Wharf Marina is in a very convenient location to numerous restaurants and several museums. The docks are new and in great shape. However, during our stay in early October there was not a whole lot of on-going maintenance. Bird droppings on the docks were never cleaned up. The lounge, while nice, never had fresh coffee during my visits. The heads could be cleaned more often.

The positive: Marina manager is super helpful and the marina is very nice with great facilities and great location. The negatives: Other than the marina manager, the staff is poor. One member is incredibly lazy and slow.  When I was coming in alone and asked for assistance docking I was told “we will try to get someone there”. Well, that someone couldn’t walk any slower.  Another boater ran from further away, passed the dock hand who said “ let me get out of your way” and helped me secure the boat.  We were done before the dock hand arrived. Upon checkin the employee at the desk was unhelpful and truly unorganized. The docks require a FOB to get through the gate.  He initially argued that wasn’t necessary as they had a ring camera to buzz us through. That was not the case. The manager eventually stepped in and helped.

The floating restrooms appear to be sinking. The bathrooms at the Office building need closer regular attention. Regular weekend early morning restocking and cleaning would solve the habitual problems with them. Toilet paper does not need to be kept under lock and key, with the employees on site unable to access it.

When I called to let them know we were close the dock master didn’t send anyone out which was strange- lots of goose poop on the dock but someone came and power washed it after we were already tied up…. Would’ve been nice to have already done that- y’all need to get your gates working because having to walk so much further was an inconvenience- great location though and will be back!

Great location, but upon arrival, numerous power pedestals did not work, there was no water pressure (fresh water), and no internet at the piers. The guest bathroom facilities were located on a barge that has a definite tilt. The design of the marina was such that it acted as a trash trap. The amount of scum, trash, and wood that was in the marina was unbelievable. Given the slip rate, a bit more attention to detail would have been appropriate.

At the price this place charges you expect a great experience. It is a beautiful location but the transient operation of this marina is a clear forgotten stepchild of the main operation a few hundred yards away -which has very nice heads & showers. Docks are new and nice BUT: Wi-Fi service poor, Head is a small floating unit that is presently listing at 30 deg - not tempting, Minimal welcome packet w/no information provided on laundry facilities - in office 100s yds away, Overly complicated instructions to reach slip. Just say motor almost to the bridge turn right at dock w/blue signs that say "Wharf Marina Docks". Derek the dockhand was very helpful but the staff in the office seem disinterested in transient operation and not knowledgeable. I have stayed at other Oasis operations and was impressed with them. But this place seems to have fundamental management issues for transients.

No WiFi/internet. Management does not communicate well with staff or customers, was originally told before booking we could all be placed together which did not happen. Received 2 emails about 20% discount and when we asked we were told that was a mistake and it would not be honored. Bathrooms were disgusting and I brought it to the attention of the staff. Nothing was done about it. They had a schedule for pump out service. When the time was not met, manager stated “they” (assuming hourly employees) should have never have made a schedule. Absolutely no accountability taken from management the whole time. Head dock hand couldn’t properly assign slips. Originally assigned a boat in my group that was already taken and never wanted to acknowledge his mistake and made a point to tell me he was doing me a personal favor by trying to rectify. He is not good at handling stress it seems. Most likely will not return.

The facility is beautiful, the location is great, and the amenities would have been outstanding…if they worked. The WiFi was out the whole weekend, which the staff knew beforehand but didn’t reveal until after we arrived. The power dropped out several times throughout the weekend, with no explanation as to why. The bathrooms were consistently messy and without toilet paper. Quite a few kinks need to be worked out before this marina is ready for prime time and several members of the staff seemed indifferent about all of it and their attitudes didn’t help.

Couldn’t get a hold of anyone at the marina to let know we were 15mins away. Called on 72 and on the phones lines no answer. It was super scary with so many boats in the channel. Next morning no toilet paper in the bathrooms and two workers were just chatting in the lounge area. I did tell them there wasn’t she apologize a gentlemen gave me a roll. She didn’t go back in to add toilet paper to the rest is the stalls however. The marina itself was nice. Just needs a bit more training with staff to keep it nice.

Made reservation months in advance for Market Docks, but was unexpectedly assigned slip in different marina that was not even open at the time of reservation. Also assigned an undesirable slip overlooking trash receptacles and undersides of a building (while numerous empty slips proved to be available next to others in my group). New marina has promise, and staff is personable, but poor rationale to slip assignments, Wi-Fi didn't work the entire visit, power went out one day, and toilet paper ran out another. Not worth the premium rate.

We stayed on a mooring at the Wharf Marina for 10 days. We decided it wasn't enough time and will return in September. The marina has just finished a huge upgrade and the facilities are gorgeous. The showers, laundry, club room, and staff cannot be beat. The staff was always going out of their way to help us, answer questions and ensure that we were having a terrific time. The fuel dock is in a great location and opened the day we left. The Wharf is lined with fabulous restaurants and a terrific bar scene. CVS, UPS, and groceries also within minutes of the marina. Walking and biking trails right off the dinghy dock and your view is of the Washington Monument....Can I say anything more??? Great job to The Wharf Marina.

The personnel were great as usual. Everything clean & tidy. Only problem is I think the 50 Amp electrical connection is not working properly. Boat was not powered properly and killed my starboard battery bank. Can't prove this but the marina should check the electrical towers.

I know you are in the middle of a renovation and most of my criticism relate to that. Your laundry option was NOT an option. Your maps of the marina were terrible and inaccurate. We loved the pump out boat but you never told us it was available. If you continue to put transient boats at the Market Pier please let people know that these services are not readily available at this time. Also let them know that the bridge that is looming a few feet from my 65 foot mast as I was coming in will not be a problem. It was a great 6 nights we spent with you guys. The location was wonderful and very secure.

- boiling hot water in shower, too hot to use - helpful dockhand, keeping the premises clean and tidy, needs a little hands-on training tying up, understand when to tighten, slack lines - generously allowed to stay couple of hours into next afternoon when getting delayed running errands in town, no extra charge

Normally prefer to use our own ground tackle and be self sufficient at anchor. That said, we chose to try this small mooring field and thrilled that we did. Perfect location for exploring all DC has to offer. Met Chris (assistant GM) who was extremely welcoming and proud of the facilities which are undergoing a huge renovation. Chris and team were accommodating and the benefits were great - water as needed, pump outs, dinghy landing, laundry, etc all included in reasonable mooring rates considering the location. Only one ball to accommodate a vessel our size but we lucked out and it was available. Moorings in great condition as well!

Very nice marina and great location. The only downside is the daily rate that they charge is higher than any other marina in the DC area. Hence, the marina is always empty with the exception of boats waiting to be chartered. Very quiet, since no one else is there.

Upon arrival the deck hands there were great. Very helpful and help dock boat with no issues. But I had to move slips twice to find a power hook-up that would reach my boat. Only issue or complaint I have is that it was not clearly stated that the facilities was just two small bathrooms and one only having a shower.

Always a great visit to The Wharf Marina. The staff is incredible you feel like you are at a truly professional marina from hailing them on VHF until you depart. The facilities are clean. Waking up and looking at the Washington Monument is incredible. The access to incredible restaurants and activities at The District Wharf area is amazing. I will definitely be returning.

Great location but limited services for transients. As a transient (stayed 1 week) we were placed WAY AWAY from the main marina facilities. The close location to restaurants, bars, water taxi (for tours or to just go to Old Town Alexandria), and even to the great marine store at Washingto Marina next door, was fantastic. But it was a long walk to pick up packages and to use the laundry at the main marina office. And Wifi at the transient docks was spotty at best. So 5 stars for location & 1 star for services. At the price they charge to transients they really need to up their game.
