Washington D.C. is known for many things. From the historical aspect to its lively shopping and food districts, there is always something to do. This spring, make sure to cruise on over to the nation’s capital for the National Cherry Blossom Festival 2019!

The cherry blossoms bring millions of visitors each year to Washington D.C. Their beautiful pink color is a stunning site to experience and see. These trees date back to 1912 when Washington D.C. received 3,000 cherry trees from Mayor Yukio Ozaki of Tokyo, Japan. The festival is an annual reminder of the continuing relationship the two countries have.

And this year is no exception! The National Cherry Blossom Festival 2019 is back again, spanning four weekends. The festival will be held from March 20th through April 14th, 2019. In addition to seeing the trees bloom, there is something for everyone in your party to participate in during this celebration.

Come help kick off the festival during the Opening Ceremony on March 23rd from 5-6:30 pm at the Warner Theatre. Attendees will have the opportunity to watch world-renowned performers with acts ranging from musical performances to the art of dance. The National Cherry Blossom Festival 2019 Opening Ceremony celebrates the season through a showcase of great American and Japanese talent.

As the festival continues, bring the whole family to the eighth annual Blossom Kite Festival. Taking place on March 30th, from 10 am to 4:30 pm on the grounds of the Washington Monument, this is the perfect family-friendly event you are looking for to kick off the Spring! This festival showcases the creativity of kite makers and the skill of fliers from worldwide. There are a variety of competitions and demonstrations, including the Rokkaku Battles and the Hot Tricks Showdown. Bring the whole family as kids will have the opportunity to make their very own kite!
