With the recent addition of Cambridge Yacht Basin to the Snag-A-Slip family, we decided to make the journey out to Cambridge MD to pick some of our favorite places in town. Not only does this small town have great waterfront property, but awesome restaurants, shops, bars and events. The locals are friendly and the atmosphere is wonderful. Check out our Cambridge picks and plan a boat trip – you won’t regret it!
🍻 RaR Brewing 🍻
Local boys brewing local beers? We’re in. Founded in 2013, RaR Brewing in Cambridge MD has brews and food worthy of a trip to this great Eastern Shore town.
RaR brewery has an open concept floor plan, but with an intimate vibe. Feel free to pick your seat either at the bar or at one of the long tables to enjoy some food and drinks. The 46-seat taproom opens right into the brewery, so guests can enjoy the latest beers from the tap, while watching RaR brew their incredible beers.
RaR offers a range of options to try their beers so you can find one you love. If you’re feeling flighty, check out their four at a time flights. Can’t decide? Grab a small pour. Know your favorite? They offer full 16 oz pours, too.
Gracie, Snag-A-Slip intern extraordinaire, visited RaR recently and tried a new release, a sour beer called Very Berry Sour, which was one of her personal favorites (along with some other IPAs they had on tap). We are big fans of the easy drinking Nanticoke Nectar IPA as well. With a 12 tap rotating beer lineup, there’s always a new beer to try.
The bar food is not too shabby either, so come hungry! We love the Drunken Tots, crispy brown with mozzarella, bacon, scallions, and a dollop of sour cream. Other crowd pleasers include the Buffalo Chicken Pretzel and the Crab Balls.
If you weren’t already sold on this awesome place, they have a great Happy Hour everyday from 4-7 PM. Select food and drink items are just $3.50. Make sure you stop by on your next trip into Cambridge!
🦀 Portside Seafood Restaurant 🦀
If you’re looking for authentic Maryland seafood, it’s time to head over to Portside Seafood Restaurant in Cambridge, Maryland! It was originally opened in 1997 as an oyster house right on Cambridge’s scenic Cambridge Creek off of the Choptank River. Now, the family owned and operated restaurant will surpass all expectations.
This small restaurant on the side of a creek gives great views of the sunset, as most seating is upstairs and outside on the deck. The open floor plan inside the top floor has a center-featured bar, with tables surrounding. More seating is downstairs right on the pier, where guests can watch the ducks swim past.
Some excitement will occur on particularly nice days, where boats of all kinds can dock within the Creek, and the drawbridge into town will raise to allow entrance. Definitely not something you see everyday!
Some fan-favorite foods off Portside’s extensive menu were sampled by Snag-A-Slip Intern Becca and her Mom Erin this August – arguably the best time for seafood and summer beers!
Becca and Erin highly recommend the fried broccoli dippers for an appetizer. Eat your heart out fried zucchini and pickles, broccoli is now in! Paired with the favorite RaR beer Nanticoke Nectar IPA, this is the perfect happy hour combination.
For entrees, there was almost too much to chose from and you can’t really go wrong with anything. Becca and Erin chose the Grouper Tenders and the Chicken Chesapeake Sandwich to share, and after the super filling appetizer, it was a perfect portion for two!
For desert, the Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie was gone in record time. It comes highly, highly recommended.
Unfortunately for Gracie and Becca, they could not sample all Cambridge has to offer. However, if you’re in the area and want to explore more food and drink options, Cambridge isn’t lacking!
Here is a list of some other awesome restaurants right on Cambridge’s Main Street that you can visit – and even sample at next summer’s Taste of Cambridge!
