Do you remember your first Jellyfish Joel’s experience?
I do.
Back when Snag-A-Slip was just getting started we made it a point to try every Tiki Bar within a three hour drive. Of course, you can’t have a proper Tiki Bar tour in the Chesapeake Bay without visiting Jellyfish Joels at Mears Great Oak Landing. Being new to the area at the time, I had never experienced sun, sand and drinks this far North. It was love at first sip.

Since then, our partnership with Great Oak Landing has grown (thank you, Mears!) and we have featured the many great amenities and activities the marina has onsite for boaters seeking a fun getaway. Located on the Chesapeake Bay overlooking Fairlee Creek, Mears Great Oak Landing Marina boasts 350 open slips, a 28-room lodge and 70 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds to offer boating families many options for food, fun and relaxation. The property is secluded enough for a relaxing vacation, yet only a 30-minute boat ride to downtown Baltimore. Whether it’s a campfire picnic on the beach, dancing to live music, swinging your clubs on the executive six-hole golf course or a day of waterslide fun for the kids, there is something for everyone.
This year, we are happy to announce that Great Oak Landing will be revealing some serious upgrades in time for the boating season. The whole team has been working very hard in the off season to deliver a new and improved resort experience for guests. We chatted with Brad Wilson, General Manager, about the improvements:
Snag-A-Slip: What’s new at Mears Great Oak?
Brad: There are so many updates for this season! We really listened to customer feedback, which helped us prioritize our upgrades. This summer, we have a brand-new swimming pool with an upgraded pool bar. We also have new and improved bars at Jellyfish Joel’s. There is also a new tent over the Kids Recreation area for arts and crafts, and we are updating the Wi-Fi.

Brad: Jellyfish Joel’s and Bayside, our water-view restaurant, changed management last year and the new team has been working hard ever since. This Summer, Bayside will feature nightly specials, soup and salad bars and hoagie stations. Jellyfish Joels is undergoing a revamp – we are changing the bars around and bringing in more variety. Guests can expert different types of games and music – as well as various bar experiences. For example, there will be an Orange Crush Bar, huge Satellite Bar with TV’s and even a Boat Bar (ETA: before the 4th of July).
There will also be a new hoagie station at Jellyfish Joel’s this summer, along with all the grilled favorites everyone always loves.
Snag-A-Slip: That’s awesome. We will have to plan a visit! What special events are on deck this Summer?
Brad: This Summer’s special events include the July 7th fireworks, Family Fun Day on August 11th, 4th Annual Golf Tournament on August 24th and an Annual Crab Feast on September 15th (transients welcome, $50pp).
Snag-A-Slip: Nice, we will share this with our readers. Is there anything new for kids? We know you have a great kid’s club.
Brad: Yes! The Kids Club is free for all transient boaters. There are tons of activities such as Halloween in July, golf cart parades and scavenger hunts. We also have inflatable slides, movie nights every Saturday night and weekend craft projects for the kiddos – we keep them pretty occupied, much like a Summer camp.
